The Witcher: Season 4

A Continent Reborn, A Destiny Divided

Grab your silver swords and your strongest Mandrake moonshine, Witcher fans! Season 4 has arrived with a new face for the White Wolf and a brutal, globe-trotting narrative that leaves our heroes scattered to the winds. Whether you're here for the monsters or the political intrigue, this season has changed the game forever.

The season kicks off with a brilliant meta-twist: we are taken a century into the future where a storyteller named Stribog recounts the legend of Geralt to a group of children, including the curious Nimue. This framing device serves as the perfect narrative "handwave" for the recasting of Geralt from Henry Cavill to Liam Hemsworth, suggesting that tales change depending on who tells them. As the children listen, we dive back into the "present," where a still-injured Geralt has left Brokilon Forest to hunt for Ciri. He mistakenly believes she is already in Nilfgaard, preparing to marry Emperor Emhyr.

The Fellowship of the Hanza

Geralt isn’t riding solo this time; he has inadvertently built a "Hanza"—a fellowship of misfits. Accompanied by the loyal bard Jaskier and the fierce archer Milva, Geralt’s path crosses with several iconic figures. Early on, they discover Cahir, the disgraced Nilfgaardian general, trapped in a coffin. Though Geralt nearly kills him, he spares Cahir’s life at the urging of his companions, setting the stage for a tense redemption arc.

The group’s ranks swell further with the arrival of the boisterous dwarf Zoltan Chivay and the mysterious, soft-spoken barber-surgeon Emiel Regis. Regis, initially appearing as a simple herbalist in an elven cemetery, is eventually revealed to be a higher vampire—a reveal that stuns the group but solidifies his role as the team’s secret weapon and moral compass. This unlikely family travels through war-ravaged lands, bonding over moonshine and shared trauma, as Geralt struggles to evolve from a loner into a leader.

Ciri and the Path of Falka

While Geralt searches for his daughter, Ciri has embraced a dark new identity: Fala. She has joined The Rats, a gang of teenage outlaws who live for thrills, theft, and drugs. This isn't the sheltered princess we knew; Ciri is now a lethal rebel, reveling in her freedom and finding comfort in a complex, traumatized romance with a gang member named Mistle.

However, Ciri’s reputation as "Fala" attracts a terrifying predator: Leo Bonhart. Hired by Nilfgaardian minister Stefan Skellen—who is secretly plotting to overthrow Emhyr—Bonhart is a brutal bounty hunter who wears Witcher medallions as trophies. Ciri’s time with the Rats ends in a bloodbath at the town of Jealousy, where Bonhart mercilessly slaughters the entire gang while Ciri is forced to watch. In the end, Ciri is captured alive, her spirit hardened and her future in the hands of a monster.

The Lodge and the Montecalvo Siege

Across the Continent, Yennefer is on a mission of vengeance. Realizing Vilgefortz is manipulating portals and mages, she rallies the surviving sorceresses to form the Lodge of Sorceresses at Montecalvo. This season culminates in a visually spectacular Siege of Montecalvo, where the Lodge faces off against Vilgefortz's rogue mages.

The victory is hard-won and carries a devastating cost: Vesemir and Istred both fall in the conflict. Vesemir, played by a new actor this season, dies a warrior’s death at the hands of Vilgefortz, while Istred sacrifices his life to destroy the Monolith portal and break Vilgefortz’s power over the Continent’s travel. Despite her grief, Yennefer pushes forward, teleporting to Nilfgaard only to discover that the "Ciri" there is actually Teryn, a brainwashed fake.

The Bridge and the White Flame’s Wrath

In the season’s final acts, Geralt’s Hanza is swept into the Battle of the Bridge on the Yaruga River. In a moment of incredible heroism, Geralt and Cahir fight side-by-side to hold the bridge for the northern forces of Lyria and Rivia. For his valor, Queen Meve knights him, officially bestowing the name he has used for years: Sir Geralt of Rivia.

But the victory is bitter. Emhyr, finally realizing that Teryn is an impostor and driven by the prophecy that his child with Ciri will rule the world, is done with games. He officially orders the death of Geralt, unleashing a mysterious monster to hunt the Witcher by scent using Renfri’s abandoned brooch. The season ends with Yennefer diving into a magical vortex to find Vilgefortz’s lair at Stygga Castle, Geralt bound to a Queen’s service, and Ciri in the cold chains of Leo Bonhart.
